Essence Festival Was Full Of Color This Year

The 2015 Essence Festival was full of exciting events and even better informational discussions. This year Kiyah Wright held it down in her own booth presented by My Black Is Beautiful “All Together Beautiful”. During this time she provided her expert advice on products and hair and did her hair magic on two beautiful models.

In addition to her time at the My Black Is Beautiful booth Wright did a panel discussion called So You Want To Be A Celebrity Stylist. During this insightful discussion she provided information, advice, and personal experiences. Chatting with her peers she was able to give some up incoming/aspiring celebrity stylist some unforgettable information.

Behind the scenes of Kiyah styling her shoulder length bob with a 1 inch curling iron to create her signature soft waves.

Kiyah On Color For Essence Magazine

This summer “Orange Is The New Black” but we say pastel is everything! Celebrity Hair Stylist, Kiyah Wright gave Essence Magazine’s readers the 4-1-1 on hair color for this summer.

When going from dark to platinum, it’s important to use the right products to keep your hair healthy and moisturized. Clairol Professional’s iThrive has the perfect products if you’re considering a transition.

Platinum blonde, pastel blue, green, and even gray require some extra TLC and iThrive Color Vibrancy Conditioning treatment will keep your hair soft and prevent it from being brittle and broken.

unnamed-3TREND ALERT!!!! If you’re tired of the usually color option try a soft pastel version of your favorite color. Many women might be afraid of sacrificing the integrity of their hair for some summer fun, but no worries try some hair pieces. A wig or even extensions can change your hair from blahhh to wow in a matter of hours but the best part  is you get to keep the hair on your head.

Check out some behind the scenes shots of Kiyah styling and coloring her wigs.

2015 BET Awards Brought The Fire!

This year marked 15 years of celebrating black excellence. The 2015 BET Awards was a show you shouldn’t have missed! With action packed performances that literally had our TV’s shaking, we were soon reminded why Black Entertainment Television’s award show is one we wait all year for. Last night the acceptance speeches were almost as exciting as the performances. Omarion, Chris Brown, Tyga, The Weeknd and many more graced the stage last night but nothing compared to the Smokey Robinson and Janet Jackson Tributes and the memory filled performance from Bad Boy.

Tinashe, Jason Derulo, and Ciara showed off their best dance moves in a tribute to the soon to be touring best performer alive, Janet Jackson. Her life’s work definitely made her deserving of The Ultimate Icon award and tribute.

Nothing compared to the energy packed performance from Bad Boy marking 20 years of success from Sean “Diddy” Combs. He brought his artist like Ma$e, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, 112, and a some new flavor from French Montana. Slip ups (pun intended) did not keep this amazing mogul from showing the world what hits he made. This was also a comparative moment for Kiyah Wright because 20 years  ago “Puffy” opened the first door for her to walk into celebrity styling.

Everyone definitely brought the funny including Laverne Cox and Gabrielle Union who did a twinsie skit. Of course Gabrielle’s hair was done by none other that Kiyah Wright.

It is safe to say that the 3 and half hour show was definitely worth every minute!!

Mane Addicts Has Some Insight For You Hair Junkies!

                      Mane Masters

Mane Addicts interviewed two-time Emmy Award Winning Celebrity Hair Stylist Kiyah Wright. The answers Wright provides give insight to her journey and claim to fame.

How did you get your start in the industry?

Kiyah: My start in the industry began when my mother put me in hair school while in high school. I took up cosmetology as a trade. Then I went to work in a really popular salon in DC with a few amazing creative bunch of guys.

What was one of your biggest career challenges and how did you overcome it?

Kiyah: I think my biggest challenge is balancing the salon, celebrities, building my own brand, a product line and a Clairol Professional schedule. This is a constant challenge for me but with time I have learned that I am doing my best and that’s all I owe the world :) At first it bothered me a lot but now I give everyone a little love from the clients to the celebrities.

Who are some role models who have inspired you?

Kiyah:A role model who inspires me, I would say Tyra banks has been the most inspiring client that I have ever worked with because she is really a hard-worker, yet still so balanced and normal. She is nice and productive. Sometimes it’s hard to be all those things for that I admire her.

Do you have a signature look or style that you are known for?

I think my looks are pretty detailed (sometimes too detailed, lol). However, my work is pretty broad across the board and I don’t think I really have one signature look.

Which hair products or tools are always in your kit?

In my kit I must-have my Le Angelique 1in and 2in flat iron. It’s rounded bevel plates can get close to the roots, straighten and curl hair and I use it for all those reasons. Also, a Tancho stick, hairpins and the Clairol Professional Heat Resistant Hairspray. I can do everything with those few products.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?

I have always followed my intuition so this is a hard one for me because after losing my mom, I have always had good timing with life choices.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Best piece of advice I received was from Puffy aka P. Diddy, he told me to stay focused and not to get too relaxed at work.

What advice would you give to new stylists?

My advice for new stylists is find your niche, keep current with the trends and always try to work with people that are better than you.

                      kiyah wright change your hair

What is the next chapter for you?

My next chapter has already began. My goal has always been to become the Paul Mitchell of textured hair care because in our culture there really isn’t someone that represents our market..Muze|hair by Kiyah Wright is my brand.

How would you describe your beauty and hair philosophy?

My beauty and hair philosophy is I believe when you change your hair; you change your life.

TyTy A.K.A. Tyra Banks A.K.A Someone We Admire

The 2015 Daytime Emmy’s aired last night on POP TV hosted by none other then Tyra Banks. This was the perfect stage to show off her new crop chopped, colored, and styled by Kiyah Wright.

Ms. Banks has accomplished an array of things in her lifetime and hosting an annual show like the Emmy’s was no surprise.

History making super model moves, gave her enough credibility to executive produce a reality show following a great competition of unique models, hand picked by Tyra herself.  This show has so much seniority it has literally raised young girls on its 21 season; we can say Tyra has struck a reality TV gold mine. Once she settled into her success of America’s Next Top Model she decided to host her own day time TV show, once again cha- ching! JACKPOT. This show helped Kiyah Wright earn two Emmy’s with more to come. Just when you couldn’t get enough of TyTy she announcing a makeup line “Tyra” Beauty sold through HSN and of course her website

As a CEO and Super Model Tyra Banks has inspired many girls, young women, women of all ages, but most importantly Kiyah Wright.

Steed claimed her prize and here’s her thoughts:

I was really grateful for this opportunity….and even more excited that I won this contest.

Thank you Essence & Clairol Professional.
And huge thank you to Irena Kojouharova, Assistant Brand Manager/P&G Salon Professional, and Kiyah for giving me a fresh, new look! xo”

We’re glad you love your new look!

Teneka already had lighter hair, but her roots were dark, so Kiyah mixed 8A and 6AA with 20 volume and BW2 powder (all Clairol Professional products) to  give her the perfect spring time blonde that can carry well over into summer.

                                        Teneka – Before and After

Step 1: Kiyah applying the color

Step 2: Color, cut, and straightened now it’s time to style!

                                        Finished, selfie time!

A Short Cut to Strikingly Hot Hair

Warmer weather means shorter tresses and fun chops! There are 3 cuts that we absolutely love and you will too. Starting with shortest, if you’re feeling daring chop it all off and keep your bang.

Tyra Banks recently went lighter and shorter for a sassy edgy look. Her new cut is the perfect embellished frame for her breathtaking face. Of course this life changing cut was done by none other then Kiyah Wright. This look is easy to style and always fun!

This ain’t your brother’s kitchen bowl hair cut! This cut is a bit more edgy but definitely fierce and will set you apart from the crowd. There are different variations of the classic cut and you can even go lower or shorter in the back and keep your straight bang.

When Kim K cut her hair everyone was screaming “all hail to the Lob!” This is the perfect cut for ladies who aren’t ready to let go of all their hair. You can even maintain the integrity of your hair by trying it with extensions for a protective style. Playing with color and even going asymmetrical can add a little flare to a shoulder length bob.

Saturday was the Los Angeles stop for Tameka Raymonds Style Theory Tour. Kiyah Wright was one of the guest speakers along with AJ Crimson, Jamal Buster,  and of course Tameka Raymond to provide advice and tips on their area’s of expertise.

The looks were fun, sexy, and most importantly something you can do at home.

Kiyah a few easy clip-ins to add color and fullness in her bang. She also used a little temporary color hair spray to the clip-ins at the base of the clip to blend with her darker roots.

The second volunteer got a full head of clip-ins and Kiyah’s signature curl. This look definitely knocked 10 years off of her!

The best hairstyle would have to go to Kahlana Barfield done by Kiyah Wright! Her makeup was flawless and the cropped wavy bob was THE perfect compliment to her sequence Dolce Gabbana knee length dress.

Solange also sported a textured long bob that we loved!

Which was the perfect cut for her Christian Siriano turtle neck gown.

Next up on our hair radar was Scarlett Johansson. Her edgy cut set her whole look off, in a good way, she must be getting ready for a movie.

The night wouldn’t be complete without shinning light on the queen of serving! JLo

The best look last night was on model Dorith Mous!

That red! That leg! That shoe!

A few of the guys came dressed to kill and we couldn’t leave them out!

David Oyelowo look fine as wine, literally!

Kevin Hart seriously impressed us with his black and white ensemble

Common’s subtle accents on his midnight blue tux were enough to make us take several double takes, which we all didn’t mind doing. Especially after he and John Legend became academy award winners.

Amazing wins and even better looks! The Academy Awards was night to remember.

A Valentine’s Day Doo You’re Sure To Love!

A twist out is a fun sexy way to maintain the integrity of your hair while keeping it touchable soft.

These easy steps will have you ready for your date and leave him drooling at the mouth.

Step 1. Start with clean fresh damp hair, section your hair into 1 inch sections and using your favorite products to add moisture and shine.

Step 2. Twist each section to the end around your fingers in a curl pattern.

Step 3. Sit under the dryer for at least 30 minutes or until your hair is completely dry. This is important for appropriate curl pattern.

Step 4. Unravel twist gently to avoid frizz or busting a wave.

Step 5. Separate twist a second time, this will add volume and fullness.

Step 6. Add your favorite oil for a beautiful sheen… and your done!

Bonus Tip! If your hair is a little dull apply a semi-permenant rise to add a healthy shine.

                                                          Grammy’s Glam Party Weekend

The biggest night in music fell upon us, and what a night it was! The weekend was full of events and parties to be seen and see the best of the best. Jennifer Hudson and Ciara decided to share glam teams and keep it fun.  Both beauties had their hair styled by Kiyah Wright and makeup by Yolonda Fredrick. The white of winter was definitely our favorite moment for the talented artist this weekend. Hudson’s simple yet sexy tube dress styled by Eric Archibald showed off her maintained slim figure to the Grammys. Ciara decided to sport a gown that said ” I may have had a baby 9 months ago, but I CAN still kill it” at Clive Davis Pre Grammy Party\. Ciara’s Alexandre Vauthier gown showed off the right amount of the toned up mommy. No spanx required here, all her workouts definitely payed off.

Memorable performances and even domestic violence speeches that brought tears to our eyes. The greatest performance of the night would have to go to Queen Bee although many fans were upset for her lost in Best Album of The Year. Beck won the award and Kanye West jokingly came on stage to reenact the acceptance speech interruption at the VMA’s. It was all in good fun but many took to social media outlets in rage.

Viewers were also able to experience a new arranged version of “Happy” by Pharell which left us smiling just as hard as the first time.  Lady Gaga and Tony Bennet laid a playful duet on us right before Usher payed homaged to Stevie Wonder. Sam Smith and Mary J Blidge provided a performance that penetrated deeper than the original version. “Stay With Me” was a song heart broken lovers could scream to the top of their lungs even if their significant other wasn’t around to hear. The soulfulness of this song won Sam four well deserved  Grammy’s.

All the performances and award winners made the night unforgettable but nothing was more memorable than the attire and more importantly the HAIR!

The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Ciara’s looks for Grammy weekend definitely were moments we all have been waiting for but the best look of the evening was a cute combination of turquoise and magenta on Taylor Swift.

Starting with the outfit a sequence dress with the low back is timeless and always in trend. This is perfect for the girls who want to show off their legs and give a little back action while camouflaging their tummy.

Keep your accessories simple and minimal like a post earring and clear clutch. It’s always fun to add a pop of color on your feet these neon pumps are perfect.

The pink pumps pair well with a neon pink lip. You can pair your pink lip with a cat eye or a simple golden natural eye.

Last but not least your hair! Since the neckline on the dress is high you can do one of two things; an up-do or a bun or a vintage shoulder length bob with soft loose curls.

                                                                  We chose the long bob!

The soft loose curls Kiyah Wright did on Gabrielle Union for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon were perfect. The high neck was the ultimate compliment to her dress and will pair well with this sequence dress on New Years. The style is also short enough to keep your back action happening. Simply wrap small sections around a 1 inch curling making sure to keep the news free, spray with some finishing spray and you’re done!

                                                                  Now your ready to party!

Place them at the top of your head, at the crown of your head, and close to the nape of your neck. Make sure your sides and edges are smooth, you can use gel and/or edge control. We recommend Ecostyler gel and ORS Olive Oil Edge Control. Once your hair is in place, you can add some natural hair extensions and pin them in place. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your shapes. To save some money you can add kanekalon or Marley hair like Nicole Ari Parker.

If you have mega growth and your natural hair is longer than shoulder length, you can separate your hair into three pony tails and twist and pin your hair into place.

These  people represent who you are what you believe in and what kind of person society expects you to be. In the black community people can tell a lot about you by what artist you listen to and support especially hip hop artist.

Last week was filled with press for Top Five, and Kiyah Wright spent the week styling Gabrielle Union. With the flare collection every woman can achieve color as vibrant as this. The holidays are amongst us and the temperatures are dropping. This makes it easier to lean toward darker tones, just in time for all of your parties and even the new year!

There’s A Line Between The Law And Crime

Just days after America was surprised,  yet again by the lack of conviction on Eric Garner’s case we cannot help but scale back to all of the deaths of black men, young and old.  Eric Garner may have been arrested previously for selling untaxed cigarettes, the possession of marijuana, and false impersonation but his execution on that Staten Island sidewalk earlier this year was unacceptable. Just a week before the verdict of this case hit the press, we all learned the police officer who gunned down Michael Brown will also walk-free.  Many Americans are confused but even more are enraged by the fact that a black man can be unarmed and killed by law enforcement for any reason and walk away free. Are the police departments really protecting and serving or are they reacting without thinking and leaving black men as the product of their “mistakes”? Many more men and boys have fallen short to these mistakes like Kimani Grey, a sixteen year-old boy leaving his friends’ party or Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams who experienced 137 rounds from the Cleveland police department. The names go on-and-on but justice is not yet served, money does not bring back lives and the black community will not “hush” until the justice system see’s that police officers are not exempt  from punishment. Americans may be able to overlook some things but when things get out of hands, they take to the streets literally. The most recent protest include lays and blocking major bridges highways and streets. Go America!

Did You Miss Your Ride… Or Did You Catch The SoulTrain?

The 2014 Soul Train Awards aired for the second time this evening and it was just as exciting as the first. Jammed packed with memorable performances from non other than Jodeci and Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, and Da Brat.

Jodeci’s performance was named the rebirth of R&B, which became a refreshing blast from the past. The entire building was singing along with the old school baby making music even current R&B greats Trey Songz and Chris Brown.

Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, and Da Brat wowed the crowd with a reunion performance after sixteen years. Everyone couldn’t wait to experience ” Not Tonight ( Ladies Night remix)” one more time and of course we were left satisfied. The performance ended with most of hip hops female greats.

She looked stunning as she interviewed some artist for the second time and of course her soft loose curls were styled by Kiyah Wright.

Centric Presents: The 2014 Soul Train Awards - Post Show

Every women wants to achieve their favorite celebrities hair style especially those who are trendy.  Wether you’re natural wearing extensions or interested in trying something new we have the update on the most sought out styles.

We can always count on Kim Kardashian to have the perfect middle part loose curl styles. Even when her hair is light the style isn’t far from perfection. To achieve Kim K’s signature look use a 1 1/2 inch curling iron wrapping medium size sections around the barrel away from your face.  If you you’re wearing a weave make sure you have the perfect installation so your hair falls properly on your face.

For all you girls wearing your natural or rocking a medium length weave Taraji P. Henson’s version of a loose curl is perfect. This style can be achieved with the similar technique but using a 1 inch iron will help in making this curl for medium length hair. Your hair has to be at least four inches in the front to achieve this style with a side bank but shorter bangs will also be super cute.

Short is is so in! No one rocks a short do better than rock star Rihanna! Her classic pixie is easy to manage and perfect for framing your face. To achieve this look (after your cut of course) use a 1/2 inch curling run your fingers through it and add a little hairspray or styling wax so it stays in place.

                                                                                Hat Hair: The Fashionable Way

The lower the temperatures get the more likely fashionesta are to add additional accessories, hats honey! We also know that adding a hat to your ensemble isn’t always about being stylish, sometimes you just can’t get your hair right and a hat is the perfect way to top it off. Another reason would be a hat is every women’s all time favorite  remedy for a bad hair day.

Our favorite hat and most versitile for long locks is the floppy hat. This piece can be added to loose waves or the perfect touch to a side braid.

For shorter hair caps and hats that have height are perfect to balance out cropped cuts. The baseball cap Lauryn Hill is wearing is the perfect accent to her vintage look.

Bobs require more structured hats like the Tyrolean, Porkpie, Fedora, and this hip version of the Bowler. Asymmetrical bobs pair well with hats that leave your face less open. If you’re rocking a bang stick to a hat that sits on the crown of your head.

Kiyah rocking a more relaxed version of a Panama on top of her blonde bob.

OK! Magazine… A Blonde Girl Country Dreaming

Now is the time to have fun with your hair and add a little flare. Adding a braid or two to your favorite hairstyle takes your mane from blah to bow! Kiyah Wright appeared on “The Real” to give the everyday woman a few tips on creating the perfect braid for her look.

The first braid Kiyah introduced was the Dutch braid.  This braid appears to be three french braids in one but, is simply an intricate “piece of art” as Adrienne Bailon expressed during the show. Created with a simple “under over, over under” weaving technique it is a little surprise in the back of your head.

The second braid was a bit more fun. Kiyah created a Waterfall  braid using a ladder technique which allowed the model to leave half of her hair down like a “half up half down” style.  The great thing about this braid is it can be a little messy and still look great.

The last braid introduced was the very trendy Crown braid . Kiyah took it up a notch by adding a “S” cornrow in the back and bringing up the hanging braid into a chignon to create a rose bud effect perfect for an evening look.

                                                                                        photo (6)

Ethnic hair will require a relaxer to maintain this look but it is well worth the rocker style that’s achieved.

Remember J Huds super cute pixie at Fashion Rocks? This is a great alternative if you desire a shorter bang. This edgy crop was styled by Kiyah Wright of course!

Last but certainly not least you can add some demision to your current length by adding  deep layers. Layers are a hip way to change your style without taking off too much length and you can keep your ponytails and buns.

Stylist sign up for an extensive, hands on, intense learning experience. During the class Wright breaks down the perfect weave step by step, but you better get it right the first time because ” Boot Camp Betty”  will have you “take it down”. Many of the students come to the class confident in their braiding patterns and weaving techniques, but once they are introduced to all the secrets of a quality weave they soon find out they have a lot to fix. With the explosion of quick weaves and fast corner cutting, everyone is trying to achieve the best weave in the shortest amount time. What many stylist fail to understand is cutting quality to decrease time cheats your customer and will discourage them from coming back. Your end result will be less money and a bad reputation.

Today on The Meredith Vieira Show three desperate daughters asked Meredith to make over their mothers. She couldn’t do anything but call celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright. For years these three mothers have been walking around with dated hairstyles and fashion. All three ladies desperately needed new hair to change their lives.

The first mother Lisa, needed some vibrancy to her color as well as straightening her Dolly Parton roller set. Bringing down her side bang and added some autumn red was all she needed to change her life.

Mommy number 2 Coraline, needed some extensions for fullness and length. Lighter chocolate brown highlights were the perfect touch to step up her sassy new haircut.

The  3rd mother Donna, knew enough about pop culture but some how still got caught in a “hair don’t”. Kiyah applied great manageable color and layers with a few soft curls to bring back the youth to her neglected look. They were easy fixes to change her life!

Fall began this week,  with the changing leaves and shorter days come shows we run home to watch. Thank God for the ability to record these shows! While viewers are raving about the incredible prime time television they experienced this week, we were zoned in on the leading ladies hair. The week started off with Jada Pinkett Smith at 8pm on Gotham and Nicole Beharie at 9pm on Sleepy Hollow.  The network gave us a break to collect ourselves and then threw in the funny on Wednesday with Tracee Ellis Ross on Black-ish a refreshing hilarious take on a wealthily black family. As the clock struck twelve and gladiators all over America prepared for the countdown to Shondaland! Thursday brought us three amazing shows written by Shonda Rhimes and two casted black women as the shows’ leading lady. Kerry Washington has been on Scandal for 4 seasons now, a show that has any fan rearranging their schedule to be on their couch at 9pm. This year we got another hour to run from reality TV and binge on the writings of Rhimes. The 10pm slot was reserved for an American legal drama series starring Viola Davis.  This seasons’ leading ladies are sporting a combination of black hair trends which include: full wigs, natural looking extensions, and God given curled tresses brought to us by Tracee’s parents. Whatever your preference for this year’s fall hair, these 5 ladies will be stunning in traditional favorites.

                                                                                                    Beautiful Autumn: Fall Trends

Mane Stream Expo is a five year old hair show in Tampa, Florida that allows stylist the opportunity to show case their talents in competition and through classes.  It also affords brands the chance to push new products. Kiyah Wright traveled to Tampa to speak on the main stage about her journey from “From The Hood To Hollywood” and held her The Look Behind The Lace class, which provided tips for flawless lace front application. Kiyah mixed up the lesson by doing an editorial photo shoot on stage. Beautiful Autumn: Fall Trends showcased fall hair color trends and styles with a garden encompassed variation of leaves branches and other greenery found in a pre- autumn garden. The students were filled with useful information and even given the chance to come on stage and help with the styling.

The past week has been filled with jaw dropping fashion from some of our favorite designers. New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion week is an event fashion lovers talk about all year. The seven days are jam packed with season trends, innovation, and exceptional showmanship.  Nicholas K, BCBG, and Meskita kicked of the week with fantastic flare for the perfect introduction to an amazing fashion week.

Nicholas K set the pace with a breath taking safari middle eastern story of full coverage and head wrap fashions. The color story included army and olive greens, sand dune tan, black, ivory, smokey grey and just when we were thirsty for color they threw in a splash of blue.

The hair and makeup was simple but captivating. Sleek low ponytails were the perfect compliment to the bold liner hidden under crafty sunglasses. This show possessed a air of sensual seduction with little skin and lots of face.

With an eleven year old brand David Tlale kept the fashion freezing a flame with his modern South African collection. On top of the amazing sequence of his show Tlale’s collection was a quintessential combination of hard tribal prints and soft silk silhouettes.

His collection included rich simple pieces in cool subtle patriotic hues of cream, ivory, royal and navy blue, metallics , and a sporadic pop of red.

Klein followed the trend of sleek styles with tight low buns at the nape of every models head. This like many other complimenting looks during fashion week helped in bringing more attention to the face and the fashions frame it.

While the newly weds are busy enjoying each other  I reminisce on the grand union I witness. Saturday August 30, Gabrielle and Dwayne Wade vowed to commit the rest of their lives to each other. It was a pleasure to be apart of such a special day.  She’s not only one of my celebrity clients but one of my “favs”. I must have hugged and told her how happy I am for her a million times. On her big day she was calm and cool while  I was doing her hair and Fiona was doing her makeup. Like Gabrielle, Dwayne was “chillin” the entire day it was funny to see him take all of the jokes about being a bridezilla. Non the less I am honored to have been apart of such a special day. Congrats to these two!

Celebrity stylist Kiyah Wright is one of the top go-to celebrity stylists in the industry. Here she explains just how she created a curly pompadour for Jennifer Hudson!

                                                                                                                  J Hud American Idol Tribute

                                                                                                                  1. Start with freshly shampooed and conditioned tresses.

                                                                                                                  2. Using a ½-inch barrel curling iron, begin creating a mass of curls all over the head from the crown to the kitchen – that is, the neck. Kiyah likes a Gold ‘N Hot curling iron to do the trick!

                                                                                                                  3. Tightly pull the sides and back of hair into a twist and pin, leaving a mass of curls to fall freely at the crown. Make sure your twist is secured with bobby pins. And use plenty of hairspray to smooth the sides and hold the twist in place. Kiyah suggests the Last Look finishing hairspray by Muze Hair, which is a light, flexible spray that allows comb-ability while styling.

                                                                                                                  4. Smooth edges with a Tancho wax stick.

                                                                                                                  5. Fluff and tease curls at the crown.

                                                                                                                  6. For the finishing touch, apply hairspray 10 inches away, all over hair to smooth flyaways and set the pompadour.

                                                                                                                  Featured on

We picked a few of our favorite fantastic fun fall trends. These are all easy styles that you can dress down or dress up. With the arrival of autumn comes the time to serve face. A middle part and a tight low ponytail is a great way to glam up your look if your hairstyle is past due. If you’re looking for a little volume you can pull back your curled or waved hair in to a bun in the back of your head.

If you’re feeling fun and funky you can try a messy up-do like Chanel Iman, and for those days when you just want to be sleek and sexy flat iron your hair bone straight part it down the middle and tuck it behind your ears. Yes, it is true Beyoncé will be performing at this years VMA’s not through live broadcast but right here in LA at The Forum (hopefully). She will not only be gracing the stage but Mrs. Carter will be receiving the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. This is considered the VMA’s highest honor only awarded to artist like Brittany Spears, Janet Jackson, Madonna, and the King of Pop himself.

                                                                                                                        Iggy and Sam

One of my favorite things about Love In The City was watching Kiyah Wright work her hair magic on  stars like Gabrielle Union and Jennifer Hudson.

When my favorite celebrity stylist offered me the chance to get a complete hair transformation at her Muze Suites salon in Los Angeles, I couldn’t contain my excitement.

Between years of chemical relaxers, blow-drying and flat-ironing and a cut I didn’t love, I was in need of some serious hair help.

Luckily, Kiyah came to the rescue just in time with a total transformation and tons of tips and tricks for keeping my hair healthy and happy.

Watch me change my hair and change my life with Kiyah Wright.

I felt like their personal and professional situations weren’t being exaggerated. I loved it, bravo!!!

I’m looking forward to season 2.

Our hour long conversation was fun. We dished of course about the show, life’s journey, career, and a lil Jesus. Join me as I go behind-the-seams with the raspy voiced ingenue.

Just being with my girls knowing they are all out for your best interest. It was honest TV. It felt too easy.

LC: Do you feel the show’s original goal or intent was achieved successfully?

KW: I do, but I also felt like it became a bit heavy too. This is that era where a lot of women are getting cancer, although it was good to see Bershan and Tiffany make it through. Then Chenoa, not being able to have children and her and husband separating. My story! I’m dating a 27 year old… is this realistic?! Our stories developed naturally. And viewers got a chance to see that and how we support each other through the process.

LC: Did you ever feel like you had to hold back, either for anonymity sake or as a filter? KW: I really didn’t hold back at all. But I’m glad they didn’t highlight me being bossy. It’s not coming from a place where I’m trying to hurt or harm anyone.

LC: Were you ever worried something would be misinterpreted or edited to come off different than your intention?

My first goal for the Muze product line was hair style maintenance. So women can learn how to maintain their hair style in between appointments. Next is hair care. Ultimately, a Muze Agency, where I can represent other talent like myself.

Don’t: Go to a colorist who’s not experienced. You don’t want your hair to come out orange when you want blond.

Do: Treat your hair by conditioning and using hair masks such as olive oil over night.

Do: Take your weave out for at least one month in between new styles to allow the scalp to be stimulated.

I survived an unsuccessful breast surgery that has left my body scared. I currently deal with a medical diagnoses that have baffled doctors as I am not dead but alive and healed through God’s daily plan for me.

Everyone always seemed to be fighting their own battles. I thought I was just another average girl who coped with the hand life dealt to me. It wasn’t until I met Jessica Grant, the founder of The Grant School, that I knew that I was wrong. I was, in fact, a strong young lady, who fought hard in life to get to where I am at, and who had a story to tell. I met Jess at work where she informed me about The Grant School, and I thought it was a beautiful thing that she was doing for today’s young ladies. I wanted to be a part of it. Jess was not hesitant at all, and let me help her whenever she needed it. Little does she know, she helped me too. I was a very negative person until she came into my life.

Charles and Ann married and had three children and I was their youngest, who they named Susan Carol.  I was born with a skin disease called eczema, a bald head and raised in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I became ashamed of my appearance, which developed into a life of covering up my skin and my true self.  Most of my younger years was focused on my outward appearance trying to get healing from eczema, but much of the attention needed to be on my inward person and most importantly my heart.

Carry these items in your makeup bag to pull together flawless beauty effortlessly.

                                                                                                                                                                            1. Foundation – powder is the easiest to carry with you at all times. It will give you a nice finish and complete look as well as a great starting point, hence foundation.

                                                                                                                                                                            2. Eyebrow pencil – your eyebrows frame your face. If you leave home without them, people may wonder what’s different about you. However, if you only fill your brows in, it makes the world of difference.

                                                                                                                                                                            3. Bronzer – gives you a nice glow and can be used in place of blush.

                                                                                                                                                                            4. Mascara – enhance your natural eye shape and color with a little mascara.

                                                                                                                                                                            5. Lipstick – a great lipstick will make you appear full-faced. Great color can create the perfect look for you.

                                                                                                                                                                                  2. Going for wider set bangs starting at each high cheekbone cuffing her face frames it nicely.

                                                                                                                                                                                  3. Use a razor cut to layer the bangs when they are full. This avoids overly blunt, heavy bangs.

                                                                                                                                                                                  4. Then sharpen the frame for a finishing touch.

                                                                                                                                                                                  5. Use a 1in barrel to create a tousled edgy look but you must leave the ends straight to achieve that edge.

                                                                                                                                                                                  6. Viola! She’s ready for Easter Weekend and she will look fabulous the entire time!

I was wondering which shampoo and conditioner would be best to use because for severely damaged hair… Now that i have been using a regular "fox hills mall" flatiron at home for about a year, my hair has been breaking like crazy! I wear the clip-in hair extensions as well but i would like to get back to wearing my natural hair but its so badly damaged that i depend on the slip ins, i just wanted to know what are some products or deep conditioning treatments that can help me get back to healthy hair! Thanks! -Brittany

Hey Brittany! It depends on what your maintenance and style is. I can give you general advice though. For moisturizing store brands I like Mizani, Keracare, Motions. The conditioners I love are Motions and L’OREAL – which has a deep conditioner in a jar they sell at Sally’s beauty supply store that is targeted at colored-treated, damaged hair

Well try shampooing with purple shampoo! I recommend, VOCE or Clairol Shimmer Lights Original Conditioning Shampoo

It’s thicker and holds a lot more body. Be sure to use products with plenty of hydration and moisture. These types of shampoos and conditioners keep the hair feeling lustrous and shiny. My number one maintenance tip is to sleep on a satin pillow case at night. Also, to enhance that shine use a silicone based shine serum like “Simply Styling ” in the squeeze bottle. Get it girl!”
